I-Witness: Croc's Bite

Earlier this year, a Grade 1 student from Agusan del Sur was reported to have been killed by a giant killer crocodile in the waters of Lake Mihaba in the Agusan marshlands. Witnesses claim that the giant crocodile is as big as a passenger bus, and it easily bit the girl’s head off while she and her friends were paddling their boat home. Award-winning journalist Kara David and her I-Witness team flies to Mindanao to investigate if there is truth to the story of the giant crocodile.

Upon her arrival in Agusan del Sur, Kara discovers that most of the residents have already evacuated their houses and moved to nearby villages. Schools are empty of students and the streets are bare of people, almost turning the whole barrio into a ghost town. Kara meets Jomar, a fisherman and one of the few remaining residents of the town, who brings her to the exact place where the victim’s body was found.

Kara also meets former residents of Lake Mihaba and learns that most of them are afraid to go back to their houses because of the crocodiles. Instead of fishing in the lake, they have chosen to work in farms despite the low income for fear of their own safety. To verify the crocodile accounts, Kara risks her own life and sails over the murky waters of Lake Mihaba in search of the killer crocodile.

Join Kara David as she searches for the truth behind the story of the killer croc in her gripping documentary “Croc’s Bite,” airing this Monday midnight on I-Witness after the late night newscast Saksi.

Many Filipinos still fear that the devastation brought about by typhoon Ondoy wouldn’t be the last. How ready are we to face the wrath of Mother Nature once more?

Learn what to do in case of calamities with Kuya Kim this Saturday (Oct 10) in a special presentation dubbed as “Delubyo: Matanglawin Special.”

Watch as the country’s Trivia King analyzes various phenomena that may cause calamities such as floods, typhoons, earthquakes, drought, or even erupting volcanoes, and shares with you practical survival tips for each situation.

Did you know that going under a table during an earthquake is not at all effective? Based on an experiment and simulation Kuya Kim made, doing such is not enough to keep you safe and protected.

Also, when you are stranded in your house half submerged in flood, can you really drink your own urine or blood to quench your thirst? According to studies, humans can only survive for three days without any liquid intake.

These and many more disaster must-know and must-do will be revealed this Saturday (Oct 10) in “Delubyo: Matanglawin Special,” together with Kim Atienza, 5:30 PM on ABS-CBN.

The Fun Continues on The Singing Bee Season 5

Andrea Del Rosario is enjoying her freedom as an actress and she doesn’t have to shed her clothes to do so. The former Hot Babe is now busy doing indie movies, which she said gives her a different kind of fulfillment.

“Actors and directors get to express themselves more freely in independent films. They are not limited by mainstream and commercial formulas,” explained Andrea, who will play with fellow indie actors Jhong Hilario and Anna Capri on “The Singing Bee” this Saturday (Oct 10) on ABS-CBN.

Another good thing about her indie stints is that she gets to play roles that go beyond her sexy stereotype. “I like portraying strong-willed women. Like in my latest film, I play a career-driven reporter,” she said.

Andrea, Jhong, and Anna stand a chance to finally earn the big bucks as they fight for a chance to become the first millionaire-team on Cesar Montano’s hit videoke game show since Jestoni Alarcon, Jason Abalos, and Janus Del Prado won P2 million in January.

UAAP and ABS-CBN Sports Renew Partnership for Another 5 Years

ABS-CBN Sports and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) renewed their contract for another five years last Sunday (Oct 4) at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

With another five years, the UAAP and ABS-CBN will be partners up until 2015, marking 15 years of unrivalled partnership that has not only been durable but also unbeatable in lifting college competition to a whole new level.

“I hope that in the coming years, ABS-CBN will show them that their confidence and trust in our broadcast organization is well-founded, as we continue to try to be in the forefront of all technological improvements,” ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III said. This year, ABS-CBN brought UAAP to the digital era by airing the live basketball games in high definition, a first in the history of local television.

UAAP President Anton Montinola of the Far Eastern University, on the other hand, expressed his appreciation to the Kapamilya Network and like Lopez, hopes for a more fruitful partnership in the coming years.

"ABS-CBN Sports has been excellent partners for the UAAP. As witnessed in the last several years, the popularity of the UAAP has increased. We have been very successful and we hope to take our success to the next level," Montinola said.

The UAAP has been the breeding ground for the country’s top college players during the last few years and in partnership with ABS-CBN Sports has developed to become the most popular sports league in the Philippines.

Present during the contract signing were ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, ABS-CBN vice-president for Sports Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN chief finance officer Rolando Valdueza and Studio 23 head and ABS-CBN senior vice-president March Ventosa.

Representing the UAAP were UAAP President Anton Montinola of Far Eastern University and UAAP Board of Trustees members Ricky Palou of ADMU and Noel Buenaventura of De La Salle University. The other UAAP Board members were on hand to witness this historic event.

ABS-CBN Bags 2 International Emmy Nominations

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation has bagged two nominations at the prestigious 2009 International Emmy Awards for the outstanding performance of actress Angel Locsin in the series "Lobo" and the outstanding drama series "Kahit Isang Saglit" starring Jericho Rosales and Malaysian model-actress Carmen Soo.

Locsin is the only Filipino nominated in the acting category and will be competing against actresses from France, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. She portrayed the role of a Lyka Raymundo, an aspiring fashion designer who later had to confront her own destiny as a she-wolf.

In a text message read by Kris Aquino in Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN) Monday night, Locsin said she is honored to be nominated but could not totally rejoice or celebrate because of the difficulties that the country is going through after typhoon "Ondoy."

On the other hand, "Kahit Isang Saglit" will be competing in the Best Telenovela category against programs from India and France. It is a landmark TV project aired both in the Philippines and Malaysia. The drama series was shot in both countries, marking ABS-CBN's first collaboration with a Malaysian production group (Double Vision).

ABS-CBN made history in 2007 when its late night news program "Bandila" earned an International Emmy nomination, beating some 800 entries worldwide in the News and Current Affairs categories. It was the first Philippine newscast nominated in the Internal Emmys.

Winners will be revealed during the Gala Night on November 23, 2009 at Hilton Hotel, New York.
